Oneida Ovenbread Recipe

check the oven for pans

turn on oven to 400 degrees – kayé: tewʌ’nyáwel̲u̲’

line bottom of pan with parchment paper – teyowiskwat kayatuhsehl̲i̲

  • 3 cups flour – ahsʌ ni: katikapslat othé:tshel̲i̲’
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder – kayé: ni:watokwá:slake watúkwas
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda – swatokwá:slat tekniyé:nas watúkwas
  • pinch of salt – ohstuha tyohyó:tsis
  • stir (above ingredients) – ʌtekawʌli
  • 3 cups buttermilk – ahsʌ nikatikapslake kanu’tathé:tu

Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt. Add buttermilk to mixture. Mix all ingredients. Sprinkle flour down on dough-rolling paper(if you own one). Fold the dough over about twenty times. Use knuckles to knead dough – katsihko:tu̲  He cut it into pieces – lakwé:taluko̲:  Put into the pan – nʌki’ káksaku ʌhatán̲e̲’  Cook for 20 minutes – tewashʌ minit yʌsatna’tálu
